This is an excellent book and a "must have" for any tax practitioner. In a very straight forward style it provides an essential foundation for tax research. This starts with the fundamentals: The nature of facts, asking the right questions, and assessing the levels of authority. The book then ties it all together by providing an invaluable approach to writing a good tax memorandum and tax letter. Beyond these basics, it provides the latest in on-line and internet based resources.
I used this book when it was first published in 1981 and I still refer to the latest addition. Our firm provides this to all our entry level tax staff. As I tell my tax people, mastering the concepts presented in this book is an important first step to becoming a complete tax professional.
